Your Snapchat email is your lifeline if you ever get locked out. By switching it to Proton Mail, you ensure your account recovery emails are stored in an encrypted inbox that only you can access — not your email provider.

Before you start: Make sure you have a Proton Mail account. Create one here if needed.

    Step 1: Open Snapchat Settings

    1. Open the Snapchat app
    2. Tap your profile icon (top left) → tap the ⚙️ gear icon
    3. Under My Account, tap Email
    4. You'll see your current email address displayed

Step 2: Change Your Email Address

    1. Tap your current email address to edit it
    2. Enter your Proton Mail address
    3. Tap Continue or Save
    4. Snapchat will send a verification email to your Proton Mail address
    5. Open Proton Mail at mail.proton.me
    6. Click the verification link in the Snapchat email

Tip: Snapchat may ask you to enter your password before allowing the email change. Make sure you know your current password.

    Step 3: Secure Your Account

    • Enable Two-Factor Authentication — Settings → Two-Factor Authentication. Use an authenticator app or SMS verification.
    • Set up a recovery code — Generate and safely store a recovery code in case you lose access to your 2FA method.
    • Review linked devices — Settings → My Account → Forget Devices to remove old/unknown devices.
    • Use a strong password — Generate one with Proton Pass.
